Celia Whitt Scholarship

Ms. Celia Whitt was a long-time friend and supporter of Radford University. She died in 1993 at the age of 103. Born in Snowville, VA in 1890, Ms. Whitt was the niece of Jeremy Pate Whitt, for whom Whitt Hall is named. Celia Whitt’s life was an example of one woman’s commitment to a simple lifestyle, faithful service, and hearty independence. She had both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, and worked as a teacher and dietitian. After retiring, Ms. Whitt volunteered to serve the needs of Appalachia’s black lung disease victims. This scholarship is a tribute to her strength of spirit and love of learning and life.
