Janice S. Mooney Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Jan had a passion for helping others, therefore nursing was the perfect profession for her. She showed this passion in many ways: her beside nursing skills; her many trips to the western Virginia hills on the Radford University health bus where she volunteered as a nurse practitioner; her insistence that her pediatric nursing students be the best pediatric nurses they could be. She often said that these little ones in the pediatric ICU couldn’t speak for themselves so they needed the best care they could get. Jan always did her best and expected the same from her students.

Jan was devoted to her family and friends. She was “Aunt Jan” not only to her own nieces and nephews but also to their children and grandchildren and the children and grandchildren of her friends. She faithfully remembered all of their birthdays and holidays with cards and gifts.

Jan had many interests and passions, from reading to needlework to music to being a passionate football fan. She was many things to many people, but most importantly she was an excellent nurse and teacher. Jan loved working at Radford University. She enjoyed the college atmosphere, including working with her students.

Gretchen Hudson, other friends and family created this scholarship to support students who wanted to pursue a career in pediatric nursing.
