Phyllis M. Cundiff Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Information

Family, friends and coworkers endowed this scholarship in memory of Phyllis Cundiff. Phyllis Cundiff graduated from Radford College in 1978. She was a Phi Kappa Phi honor graduate with a degree in speech pathology and a Masters degree in communication disorders. She began her career in Roanoke City Schools in 1978 as a speech pathologist and later as a speech-language coordinator. She was the principal of Grandin Court Elementary School for 12 years. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the International Honor Society for Women Educators.

Phyllis held the following licenses: Administration and Supervision, Pre-K through grade 12, Speech-Language Pathologist, Supervisor of Special Education and Division Superintendents license. She was Director of Special Education and Pre-School Programs for Roanoke City Schools from 2003 until her death in 2010. She also served on the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicants must be a graduate student from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 is required.
  • Must have passed his or her first Practice exam.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation are required; one from a previous school/teaching observation and one from a work or volunteer environment.
