Dr. Ronald W. Kolenbrander Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Dr. Ronald W. Kolenbrander, Professor Emeritus of Education, was a professor at RU from 1989 until his retirement in 2012. Dr. Kolenbrander passed away in January, 2019 and endowed this scholarship through a planned estate gift. He wanted to award students who want to teach history or government.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Must maintain a 3.3 GPA.
  • Must have as their primary goal a commitment to teach history and/or government not coaching.
  • Must be in their senior year pursuing licensure to teach secondary social studies.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Student must submit documents to demonstrate that they meet the criteria for the scholarship.
  • Student must write an essay in which they demonstrate their ability to critically analyze how past events helped shape current events. Student should analyze a current issue facing the country, discuss its historic roots and explain how understanding history helps us understand the relationship between the past and present.
