Virginia Porter Tyler Memorial Scholarship for Teacher Education

Scholarship Information

Colonel Willoughby B. Tyler has established a scholarship fund in loving memory of his wife, Virginia Porter Tyler. Mrs. Tyler, a dedicated educator and counselor, received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Radford College in 1956 and a Master’s of Science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1960. She exemplified what being a teacher is about, helping others through knowledge. Mrs. Tyler was able to share her talents and knowledge with students throughout the states as well as Germany and Austria. In addition to her involvement with education, she was very involved with affairs in her local and military communities.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Recipient must be a full-time student with upper-class status enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Be preparing for service in the teaching or counseling fields.
  • Students majoring in Physical Education are not eligible.
