Shelor Motor Mile Scholars Program

Scholarship Information

This scholarship was created due to Shelor Motor Mile’s commitment to the community and to extend their Growing the Future Program, which currently supports over 50 elementary, middle and high schools across several counties in Southwest Virginia. Shelor Motor Mile wanted to provide scholarship support for talented students aspiring to have careers in business related fields. The Shelor Motor Mile Scholars Program will benefit students studying in the Artis College of Science and Technology, Davis College of Business and Economics, College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and College of Visual and Performing Arts. Students pursuing degrees in accounting, marketing, finance, information technology, graphic design, public relations and communications will be eligible to participate in the program.

Scholarship Criteria

• During each year, there will be a total of 20 scholarship recipients at approximately $2,500 scholarship amount for each scholarship recipient.
• Scholarships will be limited to rising seniors with a GPA of 2.5 higher.
• Eligible majors/concentrations include : Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, Technology, Graphic Design, Advertising, Public Relations and Communication Studies.
• Select Scholarship recipients will have an opportunity to interview for a paid internship opportunity, as determined by Shelor Motor Mile.
• Shelor Motor Mile will have an opportunity to provide on-site leadership development workshop(s) for scholarship recipients designed to expose them to the mission and vision of the company, employment opportunities within the organization as a mechanism to develop workforce preparedness skills.
• The Center for Career and Talent Development will ensure Shelor Motor Mile receives invitations to participate in Career Fairs held on campus and will post employment and internship opportunities as requested.
