Elma Stanley Dowdy Legacy Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Mrs. Dowdy established this scholarship through her estate plans to assist RU students who are descendants of a Radford College or Radford University graduate. A 1947 Radford College graduate in Business Education, Mrs. Dowdy worked as Controller for Michael Enterprises in Washington D.C. She was an active alumna and served on numerous fundraising volunteer committees for the University. Mrs.Dowdy was a member of The Society of 1910 and served the Radford University Alumni Association as an Executive Council Member and as the Washington D.C. Area Alumni Chapter President. She received the RU Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. Mrs. Dowdy established several other scholarships to benefit Radford University students.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Recipients must be documented descendants of a Radford College or University graduate.
  • Full-time undergraduate student.
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.5.
  • Award renewable if award recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA. Must reapply to be considered.
  • Must not be, nor ever have been, on 20 or more weeks of disciplinary probation or suspension from any institution or higher learning.
