Scholarship Information

Dr. Winsdon Pound received his bachelor’s degree from Lynchburg College. After graduating he began his teaching career as a teacher and principal at West End Elementary School in Lunenburg County, VA. He continued his education and received a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia, then received a Doctorate of Education degree from Virginia Tech. He retired in 1983 after 33 years of service as a teacher and principal. Dr. Pound was a founder and President of Pulaski County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Task Force. He was an adjunct professor at Radford University and was Director of Community Education at Saint Albans Psychiatric Hospital for 12 years. Dr. Pound was awarded Salvation Army lifetime membership in 2011 after 50 years of service. His wife Madeline also retired from Pulaski County schools, she passed away in 2003. He created this scholarship to assist students from Pulaski County who are pursuing a career in education. Dr. Pound passed away in August, 2020.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Recipient must have a declared major in education.
  • Be enrolled as a upper class undergraduate student.
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Students should demonstrate leadership qualities in extracurricular, academic or community activities.
