C. Darrell Shell Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Mr. Shell’s wife Ann and friends established this scholarship. It has received many donations, especially from Virginia Recreation and Park Services, for which Mr. Shell served as President. The scholarship will aid a student majoring in Recreation and Leisure Services. Mr. Shell received his Master of Science Degree in Physical Education from Radford University. He worked to enhance the Recreation and Leisure Services major. He was the first Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Director and started senior programs and therapeutic recreation in Roanoke. In memory of his lifelong endeavor, this scholarship keeps Mr. Shell’s love for life alive.

Scholarship Criteria

• Recipient must be an incoming or current student with a major in Recreation, Parks and Tourism.
• Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Must demonstrate interest in the field of recreation (e.g. employment, extracurricular activities).
