Edna McDavid Barden Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Information
Mr. Bryant N. Barden established this scholarship fund in loving memory of his late wife, Edna Louise McDavid Barden. Mrs. Barden, who was a dedicated educator, received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education from Radford College. She spent 30 years as a librarian and teacher in Scott and Roanoke County Schools, and was also a librarian at Palm Beach Atlantic College in Florida. Mrs. Barden was in love with life and believed in helping her students in every way possible. She also enjoyed traveling and artwork, and was an active member in the Republican Women’s Club, Methodist Women’s Club, National Genealogical Society, Laymantown Home Demonstration Club, and the American Cancer Society’s “Outreach to Recovery.”
Scholarship Criteria
- Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree toward licensure in education.
- Must be from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher at time of application and must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or better.
- Must demonstrate a need for financial aid.
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) required.
