Malissa O. and Amanda L. Bowman Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Howard Sprinkle and his wife, Cindy, created this scholarship in memory of two of Howard’s aunts, Malissa and Amanda Bowman. Both Malissa O. and Amanda Bowman attended the school when it was Radford College, an all women school. Malissa graduated in 1938 with a normal degree and returned to Radford to complete her BS in 1946. She returned to her hometown in Smyth County and taught for over 50 years. Amanda earned her B.S. of Business Education with a minor in Social Studies and English in 1948. She went on to receive her master’s degree from New York University. The Sprinkle’s want this scholarship to provide financial assistance to students from Smyth County.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Incoming freshmen and first-year transfer students are eligible.
  • Applicants must be a full-time student.
  • Maintain an overall 3.0 GPA at Radford University.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Applicant must be from southwest Virginia.
  • Applicants who are Junior or Senior level must meet requirement for admission to the Teacher Education Program.
  • Must not be, nor ever have been, on 20 weeks or more of disciplinary probation or suspension from any academic institution of higher learning.
