Mattingly Scholarship for WVRU

Dave ’86 and Jennifer ’86 Mattingly have endowed this scholarship to support leaders at WVRU who intend to have a career in broadcasting or broadcast journalism. Dave worked as a news director and anchor at WVRU before receiving his BS in Speech. He later went on to be a news anchor at WSLC-WSLQ (Q-99) in Roanoke and then at WINC AM-FM in Winchester. He has worked as a Capitol Hill correspondent and news anchor at the Standard News radio network. Since 1996, Dave has been employed at National Public Radio in Washington D.C. as a news producer, editor and anchor. Jennifer received her BS in Business (Marketing) and is a former resident assistant at RU. She worked as a marketing service manager at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg for nine years before becoming a pre-school teacher. The couple has three children and they are very active in their children’s schools as well as little league and youth soccer.

Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student, have a declared major in Communications, Political Science, or Media Studies, be involved with WVRU for a full academic year and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need is a preference, but a FAFSA is not required.
