Lanora Geissler Smith Memorial Scholarship for Freshmen
Mrs. Smith ’43 served as a professor of Business Education and Journalism from 1942-1958 at Radford and was very involved on campus with her students. She was very active with the Washington DC area Chapter of the Alumni Association, and served as President of the National Alumni Association from 1975-1977. Mrs. Smith also provided a home away from home for a number of students with Radford ties. Mrs. Smith tutored English as a second language and counseled residential participants in shared housing, which serves high-functioning mentally disabled adults. In 1967 and 1977 she received Radford University’s Outstanding Alumnus Award. In 1985 Mrs. Smith created the scholarship bearing her name in order to provide financial assistance to deserving students. Mrs. Smith died in 1994.
Recipient must qualify for the Freshmen Presidential Scholarship Program.
